Updated Standards for Family Preservation and Stabilization Services Standards

Our standards for Family Preservation and Stabilization Services Standards (FPS) have been updated. The updates reflect best practices in the field around trauma-informed service delivery, cultural responsiveness, suicide prevention, Mental Health First Aid, respecting LGBT and gender non-conforming services recipients, and safety planning for families and for the direct care workers providing in-home services to them. In light of some of the more therapeutic components of preventive services undertaken by many providers, we have expanded guidelines on implementing the various modalities, interventions, and evidence-based practices that organizations may employ. Lastly, the most recent Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) updates have been integrated into the section with considerations around the applicability of these regulations to family preservation services within and outside of the context of family reunification.
